In 2013 Renei Gallichan, Director of TWD embarked on a website build, the excitement was palpable.
An Australian website development company was engaged and a deposit was paid.
The excitement grew – everything felt on track and very exciting.
Now, seven years later the end product is the fourth largest employment search engine in Australia – with over 140,000 monthly visitors.
This platform has a range of products and services ranging from studying internationally, moving KiwiSaver across the world, shipping services, peer to peer and B28 international money transfers and much more.
However, during those intervening years I would like to share with you the journey and back story. When I first engaged with the web development company I was completely naive – I believed that if I simply paid them the money and worked alongside the company – then ‘hey presto’ my website would be created, completed and up and running.
Unfortunately this is far from what eventuated – in fact – the reality was that I would spend the next 2 months in and out of meetings, with no less than 4 lawyers, in an attempt to get my website and intellectual property back into the hands of a second development company.
Yes, like many other new start-up companies I found myself in a position – that I never thought in a million years – would or could happen. My platform was quite literally being held ransom – Invoices I never expected for development work I did not understand – due to things such as an excess of ‘scoped hours’ – resulted in the above.
Trusted Web Design (TWD) was born from this deceitful, stressful and expensive experience and process.
Fundamentally, I took things into my own hands and I began researching online – making direct contact with development companies in Manila, India and Indonesia. Very soon, I was on a flight to Manila with a small suitcase, my laptop in hand and my website on a hard drive.
The result was employing my very own team of full stack developers.
Some three years later, this small team of three managed to get my project delivered and live without ‘the middle man’, without lawyers and scopes and endless expensive and time consuming meetings.
Fast forward to present day:
My Australian company runs on autopilot, with some day to day input from my fiancé’ – and TWD is born!
From the skillset I have developed – I have both a dedication and passion for building, designing and resolving the problems and barriers of website creation – and because of my personal experience – I am committed to undertaking and providing this ethically and with full transparency.
